In order to submit your urbanSHED entry, you must first register. The deadline for registration is September 18th, 2009. Once you've registered, you have until Friday October 2, 2009 to complete and send in your submission.
Please review the submission and presentation requirements below. Submissions not meeting any of these requirements will be rejected. If you have questions regarding the competition and how to register or submit your entry, please visit the FAQ page.
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

poster board presentation
- Projects must be submitted on only one 30 inch by 40 inch (760 mm by 1016 mm) foam core board in landscape format, with the shorter, 30 inch (760 mm) side oriented vertically.
- The poster board must be a maximum of 1/2 inch(13 mm) thick.
- The back and front of the submitted board may not have any projections and should present a surface that is completely flat.
- The urbanSHED International Design Competition sponsors will review all entries for compliance with the submission and presentation requirements, and they will determine whether boards may be presented to the Jury. The sponsors' decision is at their discretion and is final.
- The Jury will not be shown and will not review any material beyond the single board submission.

Competitors must also submit a CD labeled only with the registrant's Registration number, Attached to the CD should be an envelope with a copy of the registration form and student I.D. if applicable. This CD must include two files:
- One 600 (w) x 400 (h) pixel jpeg file (72 dpi, RBG format) that contains the one image or image detail from your submission board that best demonstrates the project.
- One Microsoft Word-compatible (.doc) file containing the identical text description included on your submission board. (This text may be no longer than 250 words.)
Registration Number
The entrant's registration number, which is the transaction number received upon completing registration and starting with the four digits 3760, not the entrant's name, must appear in the upper right-hand corner of the submitted board in either 36-point plain black text on a light background or 36 point plain white text on a dark background.

A copy of the printed online registration form containing the name of the registrant and all team members must be attached in an opaque envelope to the back of the submission board. Firms are required to list all members of the project team. The envelope must be sealed and the registrant must sign across the envelope's seal.
Submitted boards and CDs become the property of the urbanSHED International Design Competition and will not be returned. AIANY and the NYC Buildings Department assume no responsibility for damaged or lost competition entries.
All competitors' proposals must include the list of drawings below and communicate the design concept and intended experience pedestrians would have with the proposed design.

Include a 250 word or less description explaining the project's concept, materials, fabrication and installation techniques. This must be included in the upper left-hand of the board. The text must briefly describe the proposed method and condition of the shed to transport and store it when it's not being used.

drawings
Each entry must include the following technical and three-dimensional drawings of the proposed structure:
- A perspective of the corner conditions. This must be a large, descriptive three-dimensional perspective illustrating how the proposal wraps around the corner of Chambers Street and Broadway. It must be rendered to include the image of the 280 Broadway site. THIS MUST BE THE MOST PROMINENT DRAWING ON THE BOARD and must incorporate the photo provided in the Competition Site section of this Brief.
- One longitudinal elevation at 1/4 inch = 1 foot scale (1:50 scale) along Broadway, the entire length of the building. This must demonstrate the proposal's relationship to the curb, storefronts, newsstands, coffee cart or any other site-specific conditions.
- A transverse section at 1/4 inch = 1 foot scale (1:50 scale) through the proposed structure. This must illustrate its relationship to the sidewalk and 280 Broadway and include a clear illustration of the anchorage system.
- A three-dimensional vignette(s) of the pedestrian experience under the shed. This should be a three-dimensional narrative drawing(s) that visually shows a pedestrian's experience walking through the proposed sidewalk shed. It must include the visual context of 280 Broadway and surrounding sidewalk and street. This can be an image either at night, during the day or both.
- Lighting Detail at 1/2 inch = 1 foot (1:25)
- Sidewalk Shed Outer Sides and Ends Detail at 1/2 inch = 1 foot (1:25)
Additional, optional drawings: Competitors may include any additional drawings, sections, elevations, perspectives or images that further communicate the design concept.
